Therapy in Tampa That Takes Your Insurance

Accepting new clients — September 2026

We're in network with most major Florida plans, we can usually see you within the same week, and if we don't take your plan we'll give you a superbill so you can claim it back. Call 813-402-2002 and we'll check your benefits with you before you book anything.

Plans We Accept

These are the plans we bill directly. If yours is on this list, you pay only your copay, or whatever your deductible leaves outstanding.

  • Aetna
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Florida Blue
  • Cigna
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • Optum
  • Ambetter
  • Medicare
  • Florida Medicaid
  • Tricare

Plans change their networks more often than anyone would like. We re-check this list monthly, but it's always worth a quick call to confirm before your first session.

If We Don't Take Your Plan

You can still claim most of it back

Many plans reimburse a good portion of out-of-network mental health care. After each session we give you a superbill — an itemised receipt carrying the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurer needs. You submit it, they reimburse you directly.

Or skip insurance altogether

Paying privately keeps your records out of insurance hands, requires no diagnosis, and puts no cap on how long you stay in therapy. Our self-pay rates are published below — no phone call needed to find out what you'd pay.

Before You Book

How to Check Your Benefits

Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask these five questions. It takes about ten minutes, and it's the single best thing you can do before starting therapy anywhere — with us or with anyone else.

  1. Do I have outpatient mental health coverage? Ask specifically about CPT codes 90791 (first session) and 90837 (ongoing therapy).
  2. What's my deductible, and how much have I met? If you haven't met it, you'll pay the full contracted rate until you do.
  3. What's my copay or coinsurance per session? A copay is a flat amount. Coinsurance is a percentage, so ask what it's a percentage of.
  4. Do I need a referral or pre-authorisation? Most plans don't for outpatient therapy, but a few still do — and a missing authorisation means a denied claim.
  5. Is there a limit on sessions per year? And does telehealth count the same as in-person?

Write the answers down and bring them to your first session. If any of it is confusing, bring it to us instead — we do this every day.

Self-Pay

Our Rates

Plenty of people choose to pay privately, and we'd rather you knew the number before you called than after.

Your Good Faith Estimate

If you're paying privately or not using insurance, the federal No Surprises Act gives you the right to a written estimate of what your care will cost before you begin. We'll hand you one automatically — you don't have to ask for it.

FAQs

Common Questions

Do you offer sliding scale or reduced fees?

Do you take Medicaid?

Will my insurance company know what we talk about?

No. To bill your plan we submit a diagnosis code, the dates of service and a procedure code. The content of your sessions is never shared. If even that feels like too much, paying privately keeps insurance out of it entirely.

Is couples counseling covered by insurance?

Often not, and this catches people out. Most plans only cover therapy treating a diagnosed mental health condition in one identified client, and relationship difficulty on its own usually doesn't qualify. Some couples work is billable when one partner is being treated for something like anxiety or depression. We'll tell you honestly which situation you're in before you book.

What happens if I need to cancel?

How soon can I be seen?

Usually within the same week you call. We have two offices — Carrollwood and New Tampa — with appointments at both, plus telehealth anywhere in Florida if getting to an office is difficult.
